This is my twelfth year teaching and living in North Carolina. I am originally from Jefferson, Ohio, which is located in the very northeast corner of Ohio, known for its annual average of four feet of snow throughout the winter. Ironically, I am not a snow person...at all!
I graduated from Malone University with a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Social Studies Secondary Education (6-12) in 2004. I received my Master's Degree in Middle Grades Language Arts (6-9) from Appalachian State University in 2008. Since this time, I have been teaching 9th Grade Communication Skills and English I at the Career Center Middle College. In 2010, I received National Board Certification in the area of Middle Grades Language Arts. In 2013- I completed an passed an assessment which granted my ability to upper level English, so now I teach high school English in grades 9-12. I love my job because I know that I have the daily opportunity to positively impact a child's life. In regards to other duties, I am the prom coordinator and the Parent Advisory Council teacher representative. I serve on the School Improvement Team, the Student Success Team, and the Faculty Staff Development Team.
I have been married for twelve years to David Johnson, a First Grade teacher at Dudley Shoals Elementary. Together we have an eight year old daughter, Emmalynn, and a four year old, Raylee. They are all such a blessing in my life.
